" The world at my height " - Quality wooden children's furniture & other creative custom carpentry.

Welcome to our blog

Welcome, you’ve found our blog especially for little people. We are currently working on our website, in the meantime please browse through our pages at your leisure. You’ll find we make beautiful wooden furniture for children. When we say ‘for children’ we mean to suit their needs, to stimulate and encourage them in ways that will enhance their development in a daily manner with an indirect aim on learning and development.

Our range of furniture is inspired by Montessori philosophy as a part of this philosophy is to encourage independence. One of the benefits of greater independence is more self-confidence and a healthy self-esteem.

In the gallery, you will find furniture items for little ones with a description of how they can benefit children.

Bedroom sets

We do custom bedroom set-ups using the Montessori philosophy.

Toddler chairs & tables

The toddler chairs are lower than standard children’s chairs so all the toddler needs to do is bend their knees. The seat is wider than the standard seat as little ones like to shuffle their bottoms all over the place. I’ve seen toddler’s faces absolutely light up when they see a chair and table just for them. Something that they can actually move around on their own, push the chair in and pull it out (gross motor & muscle development) which they love doing.
They can sit comfortable and feed themselves (hand-eye coordination, independence & confidence). By tucking the chair in and pulling it out it also develops their spatial awareness – realising the chair needs to be closer to the table so their arms can reach the table. The toddler chairs and tables can be used way past toddlerdom, I still sit on a toddler chair quite comfortably when sitting with my son at his table.

Easy bundle O shelves

Dr Montessori observed that young children have a very definite need for order in their environment and in their daily activities; this helps them expect what comes next. When their environment is ordered it assists them in providing them with clear impressions. Clear impressions help them make sense of the world and to create their understanding of all the things around them. To make this task easier for children is truly serving the child. We encourage parents to move away from the ‘toy box’ method of storing children’s toys. Throwing everything into a big box is much the same action as throwing away rubbish in a bin. It does not foster respect for their belongings. When we make use of shelves to display their toys it also means there are fewer toys out. We like to rotate our children’s toys every couple of weeks, this keeps them interested and saves on buying new toys all the time. They learn to appreciate and respect what they do have and it it encourages them to care for their environment by having a place for everything – so everything has its place. The shelves are no-fuss as they are free standing and easily movable.

Children's cupboard

hildren’s cupboard:

Encouraging children to dress themselves has hundreds of benefits. When they dress themselves it develops their independence as well as creatively expressing themselves in the clothes they choose to wear. Putting their foot into the opening of pants/ skirts develops hand-eye coordination. The very act of pulling on clothes develops all sorts of muscles in the arms, legs, stomach and the entire body. For a young child to focus on which way their trousers go and which part goes first develops their concentration. A lot of parents first reaction to the children’s cupboard is “oh, the mess of them unpacking all their clothes!” This could also be seen as an opportunity to teach them to fold their clothes (fine motor development) and to pack them away. Toddlers are more than happy to get involved and absolutely love to feel like they’re a part of something. Yes, even cleaning up.

Toddler beds

Toddler bed:

There is an alternative for your child instead of sleeping behind bars in a cot. And that would be our Toddler bed.
This is why we designed the toddler bed. It’s very low to the ground so that babies who have learnt to turn around and can go backwards down stairs can easily get of the bed (gross motor/ muscle development and spatial awareness).
The option of an additional little gate at their bedroom door, allows them to  wake up, explore and play in their room safely until they call for mom or dad.  For the more independent child without the gate,  parents might prefer being gently poked in the eye to wake up than hearing ear-piercing shrieks first thing in the morning.
The toddler bed has raised sides to stop children rolling out of bed.
Being able to get in and out of bed fosters their independence and they wake up happier .  A toddler bed would suit a 6 month old to a 3½ year old. Before then they quite comfortably and securely sleep in a carry cot or in mom and dad’s bed.
